Plant Experiments – Seniors Infants

April 12, 2024

In Senior Infants lately, we’ve been really interested in what makes plants grow and how they drink.

A few weeks ago, we did a test to see what plants needed for growth. We got some beans and gave on set water and light, one got water and no light and one got light and no water.

After nearly four weeks, we examined the beans and saw that the beans with no water didn’t grow at all. The bean without light that was kept in the cabinet, grew a small bit (maybe it got light when the door opened or through a small crack) but it didn’t look healthy. Where as the plant that got both was thriving. Proving that plants need water and light to grow.

We also wanted to see how plants drink. So using celery and water with food dye we could see how water spreads out through the plant from the roots. We ended up with blue celery!

What a fun way to learn about plants and remind us how important it is to take care of them properly.
