On 1st December we were proud to welcome representatives from the Naval and Army Services to our school as part of the ‘Flags to Schools Initiative’, to present us with the Irish Tricolour and the 1916 Proclamation which will be raised on March 15th 2016.
Our Head Boy and Head Girl welcomed the visitors which included Petty Officer Kara Maloney and S/Lt. Daniel Cagney to the school. Petty Officer Maloney and Lily Fitzgerald, a pupil of our school, both read the Irish Proclamation.
We sang An Maidrín Rua and our national anthem ‘Amhrán na bhFiann’ and at the end of the ceremony the Head Boy and Head Girl were presented with the Tricolour and the Principal was presented with a copy of The Proclamation in both Irish and English to mark the 100 year anniversary of the 1916 Rising.
We had a lovely morning and we were very proud of our students who took part in a ‘question and answer’ session about 1916. We look forward to 2016 and the raising of the Irish Tricolour in memory of 1916.
Our Chairperson, Virgil Horgan and Chairperson of the Parents’ Association, Maria O’Brien were also present along with many parents and friends of the school.
