Posted on Nov 12 by

Rang a 6 explored series and parallel circuits involving bulbs, buzzers and motors. We also studied the body’s digestive system and tuned into a wonderful SFI online tutorial called foodoppi. Rang a 5 had great fun and learned lots while investigating reflection and refraction of light. Rang a 4 were very busy exploring the amazing work of famous scientists. Rang a 3 investigated transpiration in plants, created lava lamps (materials & change) and researched famous scientists. Rang a 2 explored the impact of oil spills on our seas and oceans. They also simulated an oil spill with a class experiment, highlighting the importance of keeping our seas unpolluted. Rang a 1 looked explored gravity, slopes and speed. Past Pupils upgrade masks for use by hospital frontline workers.

Posted on May 7 by

SN Chóbh are very proud of their past pupil Shane Collins who has been involved in a huge undertaking along with fellow student Oisín Coyle at Kinsale Community School. They have been designing visors for healthcare workers in Cork hospitals along with our own local hospital and residential home in Kinsale. Since the end of March,a small team of staff and students have been making and supplying some 6,000 visors designed by the two students at the school using 27  3D printers. Recently they were approached to see if a device designed by the two boys could be used to improve face masks that had arrived in a consignment from China. Shane along with Oisín have been giving of their time and expertise during this Covid 19 crisis to design and alter this consignment of masks which did not meet the expectations for use by frontline hospital staff and have been upgraded thanks to the ingenuity of the two boys along with staff from the school. These masks will now be sent to hospitals and care homes across the...
